About Persimmon

The current issue of Persimmon: Asian Literature, Arts, and Culture is available on-line. From January 2000 through the summer of 2002, Persimmon was published in a print edition. Copies of those issues—each is a handsome volume, printed on acid-free, quality stock and perfect bound, with a full-color cover—are available. For information about ordering, click here.

Persimmon aims to both inform and entertain. Its mission is to bring to readers insights into Asia not readily available elsewhere.

Persimmon features established writers, as well as exciting new voices, and presents:

contemporary Asian literature in translation (short stories, excerpts from novels, excerpts from memoirs, poetry)

feature articles on both cultural and social issues

interviews with, and profiles of, prominent Asian writers, artists, and filmmakers, as well as government, business, and educational leaders

letters from both Asian and Western correspondents in Asia, detailing their observations and insights on current events and daily life

brief reports from a half-dozen Asian cities outlining the latest in popular culture, including movies, music, fads, fashions, books, magazines, and television shows

gleanings from both the Asian and Western press of items of interest on a broad range of cultural and social topics

Persimmon: Asian Literature, Arts, and Culture is published by Contemporary Asian Culture, Inc., a not-for-profit educational organization devoted to increasing awareness of the peoples and cultures of Asia. In addition to publishing Persimmon, Contemporary Asian Culture, Inc. sponsors lectures, readings, writers’ seminars, translations of Asian literature into English, and art exhibitions. The organization’s activities are geared to reaching a broad range of people who wish to increase their understanding of Asian culture.
